Our children are the future, and their health and wellbeing deserves more focus than what it's getting today. Only 3.8% of all government funding goes to pediatric cancer research, and that number must change. The team at Saving Sophie is dedicated to advancing more research for many different types of pediatric cancers so that ALL children have a shot at a happy and healthy future.
Inspired by 11-year old cancer warrior Sophie Ryan, who was diagnosed at just 8 1/2 months old, Saving Sophie is a 501c3 dedicated to supporting groundbreaking medical research for cancer patients young and old, as well as helping families who are financially challenged.
Sophie's parents, Josh & Tracy Ryan, were driven to find a cure for Sophie's cancer when they learned that only 3.8% of all government funding went to pediatric cancer research, and only 4 new drugs had been brought to market in 40-years for children with this life threatening disease. Considering their daughter's tumor, that has an 85% recurrence rate, was low-grade and rare, a breakthrough therapy for Sophie's disease was nowhere in sight.
Deciding to never give up, the Ryan's are now personally involved in cutting edge research and therapeutic treatments that are showing incredible promise in cancer immunotherapy. Having access to science that is backed by over 30-years of research, and led by the world's leading researcher in the field of Natural Killer Cells, Josh, Tracy and Sophie are determined to do their part in ensuring these therapeutics make it to market, and patients who can't afford them can access them through financial support from their charity.
Because at Saving Sophie, the goal isn't just to Save Sophie...it's to one day help patients all over the world.
The Ryan family has made advocacy and public education a primary focus over the last 8 years. Through their efforts, their story has been documented globally in documentaries, network television, national and global publications, celebrity podcasts, national radio shows and beyond. Here is a small sample of some of the places they have been featured.
